Orientation Letter
August 2001
Dear MGT 162 Students,
Please read this letter carefully.
This course runs from
August 27 to December 16, 2001.
There is no required on-campus orientation for this course. All
orientation materials are on the Internet. I will be available on
campus on the evening of Friday, August 24 for the Distance Learning
orientation should you wish to ask any questions about the course.
Times and rooms for the orientation will be posted on the college's
distance learning Web site after August 20.
The only required trip to
campus is to purchase your textbook. The Campus
Bookstore has the texts for this course:
Personal Finance, Sixth Edition
by Jack R. Kapoor, Les R. Dlabay, and Robert J. Hughes

Login Procedures for Blackboard 5
You will be able to access
course materials beginning August 24,
2001.
To logon to the Blackboard system,
follow the procedures listed below.
1. Go to Prince George's Community College's Blackboard site at:
http://pgcconline.blackboard.com
2. Click on the button labeled Login:
3. You will see a
dialogue box that asks you to enter your username and password.
4. You
will see a dialogue box that asks you to enter your username and
password.
Your username
will be: (first initial of first name)( first 3 initials of last name)
(your birth month expressed as two digits; for example, if your birthday
is in March, it would be entered as 03) (your birth date expressed as
two digits; for example if your birth date is on the first of the month,
it would be entered as 01).
Use only lowercase to enter your username; use NO spaces.
For example, if your name is John Smith and your birthday is April 8,
your username will be
smi0408
Your password
will be: your full 9-digit Social Security Number (no spaces and no
hyphens). For example, John Smith's password will be
123456789
Note: You can change
your password after you logon. To
change your password, after you logon, click on "Personal
Information" in the Tools frame and then click on "Change
Password."
5. Write down your username and password information so you
can refer to it if you forget.
6. Very
important! You will have
only one username and one password for Blackboard 5 regardless of how
many Blackboard courses you are taking. If your login is
successful, you will see the Blackboard Welcome screen and and links to
your courses will listed in the box labeled "My Courses."
More About Blackboard 5
Our web course management system will
be Blackboard 5. Although you cannot access
the course materials site until August 24, you can access the Blackboard
5 Level One Student Manual to find out more about how to use
Blackboard 5. Most students find Blackboard easy to learn
and easy to navigate. But, if
you have questions about Blackboard, contact the Distance Learning
