The PRAXIS Exams


Ball_blu.gif (909 bytes) What are the PRAXIS exams? The Praxis exams are assessments for teacher candidates that are administered by the Educational Testing Services (ETS). There are two main parts to the test - Praxis I, the Academic Skills Test (reading, writing, mathematics) and Praxis II that consists of separate content and pedagogy tests. Passing scores on Praxis I in Maryland are: 177(Math), 177(Reading), 173 (Writing), or a combined score of 527."

A.A.T. students must take PRAXIS I after completing 45 credit hours. Passing the exam is a graduation requirement.

All provisional elementary teachers must pass Praxis I and Praxis II # 10014 and the elementary pedagogy exam in order to obtain standard certification.

All provisional secondary teachers must pass Praxis I and II in their content area and in content pedagogy in order to obtain standard certification

Resident teachers need to pass PRAXIS I and the content portion of PRAXIS II before being admitted to the Resident Teacher Program.

Prince George’s County Public Schools Educational Media Center has a take home version of Learning Plus, computer practice software (301-386-1597). At PGCC, ask in the Education Department for information on Praxis software. Help books can be purchased through the above website. .
