100. Lifetime Fitness and Leisure Activities. 1 Credit
Develops basic skill level in selected activities. These courses are 1 credit and can be
used in combination with PED 103 to transfer to other institutions. These courses meet for
half a semester or are late starting. Activities include aerobic workout, badminton, touch
football, indoor soccer, softball, and combination activities.

Develops athletic abilities from beginner through intermediate levels along with knowledge
to attain activity and wellness throughout one's life. Class also includes lecture and
textbook information to help one stay healthier through the concept of total fitness.
Activities include aerobics, basketball, bowling, circuit weight training, hand dancing,
golf, karate, racquetball, step aerobics, swimming, social dance, tennis, volleyball, and
water exercise.
Fulfills Physical Education/Health degree requirement.

Physical education as a profession, including its history, opportunities, and education
requirements. Includes field trips and other experiences.

For future teachers and recreation leaders. Rhythmic skills for all age levels, inclluding
folk and square dancing.

PED 118. Lifeguard and First Aid Training. 2 Credits
Skills required of lifeguards at pools and non-surf, open water beaches following the
American Red Crosss Lifeguard Training specifications plus standard Red Cross First Aid.

Training for students holding current WSI, CPR, Lifeguard, and First Aid certifications
following the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor course specifications.

Training in Basic and Emergency Water Safety as well as Swimming Instructor training
following American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course specifications.

Working with physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or socially handicapped children to
promote therapeutic motor development. For early childhood, special, and elementary
education transfer students.

Motor development and its relationship to the exceptional child. Refining practical motor
development skills by working with children with disabilities. For early childhood,

Study and practice of principles for optimizing health, including the components of
fitness, diet and weight control, and stress management. Individual fitness and
wellness will be evalauted and a personalzied wellness plan implemented.
PED 251. Adapted Physical Education for Handicapped Children. 3 Credits
For physical education teachers or other school personnel who provide services to
handicapped children. Federal and state regulations, motor development assessments,
program planning, modification of activities and equipment, managing behavior, and
teaching strategies.
