115. Personal and Community Health.
Issues of individual and community health, emphasizing fitness, nutrition, emotional
health, sexuality, substance abuse, and social health.HLE 201. Health Issues in
a Culturally Diverse Society.
Reviews the health issues and problems affecting ethnic minority groups in the
United States. Emphasis will be placed on defining health problems and related
issues, determining their current status, and possible solutions. The American
health care system will be evaluated for its ability to deal with the needs of all
Americans.
HLE 213. First Aid - Responding to Emergencies/CPRFPR.
Emergency care skills and techniques plus CPR and basic life support skills for the
professional rescuer.
Two certificates awarded: First Aid - Responding to Emergencies and CPR Basic Life
Support for the Professional Rescuer.
HLE 215. Introduction to Child Health.
Identification of nutritional, health and safety needs of young children, and the
role of the early childhood educator in promoting child health. Includes the
development and implementation of specific activities that introduce yung children to
healthy habits.
Prerequisite: ECE 151.
HLE 221. Human Sexuality.
A broad examination of the biological, developemntal, and social components of human
sexuality. Topics include male and female sexual physiology, the sexual response
cycle, gender issues, relationship sexuality, fertility issues, sexually transmitted
diseases, sexual orientation, cultural diversity and sex education issues.
HLE 223. Controversial Issues in Human Sexuality.
Examines controversial issues in human sexuality including but not limited to abortion,
pornography and obscenity, contraception, fertility control, sex education, and
government/religious regulations of sexual behavior.
HLE 225. Health Issues for Women.
Examines a broad range of health issues that are either unique to women or of special
importance to women, including eating disorders, abuse and rape, self-esteem related to
appearance and reproductive technology.
HLE 231. Staying Healthy after Fifty.
Health issues for the older individual, emphasizing techniques for maintaining health and
vitality.
