Independent Writing  by O'Donnell and Paiva

Recommended Book:

A good English language dictionary such as Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 

1. Write a five-paragraph essay with introduction,      body and conclusion.

2. Produce sentences with relevant and appropriate support for the thesis statement.

3. Present ideas clearly.

4. Use conventional syntax and mechanics with only minor errors that do not interfere with reader's comprehension.

5. Follow the standard format for essay writing.


Course Policies:

Attendance - You are required to attend and be on time for all classes and labs.

Homework - You are expected to complete all assignments BEFORE coming to class.

Writing Assignments - There will be six graded assignments, some written in class, others at home.  If an assignment that is completed at home shows a markedly different style or skill from those written in class, the instructor reserves the right to have you write on a different topic in her office. No lat assignments will be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Behavior - Students re expected to treat the classroom environment and all members of the class with respect. Disruptive behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
