Personal Introduction

The “World of Psychology” is an exciting place to study and earn a Psychology Degree!  My name is Dr. Dawn K. Lewis, an Assistant Professor at Prince George’s Community College.  By training, I am a Clinical Psychologist.  My specialties include clinical-community, adolescent, multicultural, psychopathology, psychotherapy, and clinical training.  In addition to teaching, I have numerous experiences in conducting psychotherapy to various diverse groups.

My research focuses on assessing psychopathology (e.g., depression and anxiety) in African-American women and assessing their self-esteem and self-identity.  Due to the sparse research on depression and anxiety in African-American women, I am interested in contributing to the literature about African-American women and their psychopathology.  My research will focus on the process of how to encourage African-American women to seek psychotherapy for treatment of depression and anxiety.

Besides my academic interests, I love any aspect of the arts.  I love the theatre, museums, art, and poetry/reading.
