Sample question and answer from Attorney Bruce N. Desimone

ANNULMENT vs. DIVORCE

Q: I was recently married and I want an annulment. Am I eligible?

A: Many clients desire an annulment, but few are entitled to one. An annulment, under Maryland law, can only be obtained in exceptional circumstances. One can obtain an annulment if the marriage was not consummated, or if your "spouse" did not obtain a divorce from his/her first spouse.

If you have consummated your marriage, even if you have been married less than a day, you will likely have to obtain a divorce.

Please contact an attorney to evaluate the specifics of your individual situation. Please feel free to contact the Law Office of Bruce N.
