This page is designed to be a resource for students taking Biology 2050
(Human Anatomy and Physiology I) and Biology 2060 (Human Anatomy and
Physiology II) at Prince George's Community College. I've tried (and am
still trying) to assemble as many useful and helpful links as possible.
A&P is a science of both volume as well as understanding and as such,
requires a large time commitment. Hopefully, the items here will
aid your studying and provide assistance in your quest to master the
material. Good Luck!
The following links and activities are organized by system. If you know of
any sites worthy of inclusion please let me know.
Links for Anatomy and Physiology I
Skeletal System
The Axial Skeleton
From UW-L, this site has multiple images and views of the bones that
compose the axial skeleton. Very nice.
The Appendicular Skeleton
More from UW-L, this site has multiple images and views of the bones that
compose the appendicular skeleton. Quite nice.
Anatomy of the Nervous System
Another good site from UW-L. Multiple images (different views and
sections) of brain models and the sheep brain. Good for review and study.
Muscles Tutorial
Interactive java-based tutorial. Very good for quizzing yourself. This
one is also courtesy of Dr. J. Crimando of Gateway Community College.
Skeletal Muscle Anatomy
Lots of photos of cat muscles and human muscles (cadaver rather than
model). A little tough to see sometimes. Better for review. From UW-L.
Histology of Muscle Tissue
Several images from UW-L including cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscle
sections. For more histo links, click
here.
Myosin-Actin Animation
Neat animation of the interaction between myosin, actin, tropomyosin,
troponin, ATP, and Ca2+. Watch it twice!
Photos of Cat Dissection and Sheep Heart
Very nice site from Penn State University. Includes
pictures of cat internal anatomy and exterior and interior views of the
sheep heart. Highly recommended.
Interactive Tutorial on the Sheep Heart
Excellent site created by Dr. J. Crimando of Gateway Community College.
Great way to learn the sheep heart. Highly, highly recommended. 4
stars.
Heart and Blood Vessel Anatomy
Great site from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse. Includes a cross
section of artery and vein, slide of cardiac muscle, and three different
views of a model of a human heart (anterior external, posterior external,
and internal). Highly recommended.
Heart
Animations!!
Some pretty neat animations of how the heart works. Illustrates pressure
gradients, valve operation and several other salient features. Check it
out.
Hematology Tutorial
Decent site with nice pictures. Gives you the lowdown on blood and blood
cells.
Tutorial on Blood Types.
Gives good information on blood types and contains some OK problems. A
little heavy on the genetics, but it's good stuff to know.
Anatomy of the Digestive System
From UW-L, this site has pictures of digestive system models and some nice
photos displaying the guts of a dissected cat.
Histology of the Gonads
Includes several adequate slides including a smear of bull sperm. For
more (slides, not bull sperm), click here.
Urology
Hangman
Kind of Clinical but everybody loves to play HANGMAN!
Immune System
Awesome Immune System Movies
Really, really good cartoon movies about antigen presenting, cellular and
humoral immunity. These are nice!!!!
Immunobiology Animations
Some pretty neat and detailed animations concerning immune system
activities. Some are too detailed and advanced, while others are more
rudimentary and appropriate for A&P.
Anatomy of the Respiratory System
From UW-L, this site has pictures of models (head/nose, larynx, lungs) as
well as photos of a dissected cat with the respiratory structures labeled
and visible.
