Course Descriptions

 

Basic Rider Course (BRC) — OCC-361

This 17-hour, MVA-certified motorcycle safety and licensing course is designed for beginners. You must be at least 16 years, 3 months old to register. Participants receive approximately 7 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding instruction. A bike and safety equipment are provided. Successful graduation from the course qualifies students, who are licensed in Maryland, for a class-M license. If you are not licensed in Maryland, check with your local MVA to see if our program meets your state’s requirements.

 

Two BRCs run every weekend. Weekday courses are available 2-4 times a semester. All courses take place on the college’s main campus in Largo. The  basic schedules for the  classes are as follows:

1. Weekend AM: Friday 5:45pm-9:15pm, Saturday 7:45am-5pm, and Sunday 7:45am-4pm. 3 sessions.

2. Weekend PM: Friday 5:45pm-9:15pm, Saturday 9am-6pm, Sunday 12pm-8pm. 3 sessions.

3. Weekday: Monday and Wednesday 7:30am-12pm, Tuesday and Thursday 7:30am-2:30pm. 4 sessions.

 

Alternate Basic Rider Course (BRC II)—OCC-369

This 7-hour course is designed for students who have already learned basic riding skills, but wish to earn a Class-M license. You need to be at least 18 years of age to register.  A bike and safety equipment are provided. Successful graduation from the course qualifies students, who are licensed in Maryland, for a class-M license. If you are not licensed in Maryland, check with your local MVA to see if our program meets your state’s requirements.

 

Courses run periodically throughout the semester on a Saturday or Sunday from 7:30am-3pm. 1 session.

 

Experienced Rider Course (ERC)—OCC-365

This 6-hour course is for licensed motorcyclists who want to improve or refresh their skills. Individuals enrolling in this course must have a valid motorcycle license. Riders use their own motorcycles and riding gear. Riders who successfully complete the skills test will receive a Motorcycle Safety Foundation program completion card.

 

Courses run periodically throughout the semester on Saturdays 7:30am-3pm. 1 session.

 

Motorcycle Maintenance — OCC-354

Now that you have your motorcycle, learn how to perform basic maintenance and inspections on your motorcycle in this six-hour, two-evening course. The course includes pre-ride safety inspections, maintenance schedules, tools, cleaning, winterizing, changing oil, tire pressure, fluid levels, and chain and cable adjustment.

 

Courses run periodically throughout the semester on Mondays 6pm-9pm. 2 sessions.
