MAYO CLINIC

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program-SURF

 

Mayo’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship is a 10-week program where you will:

  1. Conduct your own small research project or work on part of an ongoing research investigation.

  2. Develop your technical skills.

  3. Participate in a special weekly seminar series that introduces you to rapidly progressing research areas.

  4. Learn how laboratory research is translated to new medical treatments.

  5. Receive a fellowship award of $4,000

 

Eligibility and Application Process:

You can apply for the SURF program if you:

 

  1. Are a student currently in your sophomore or junior year at a US college or university.

  2. Have a grade point average of at least 3.0

  3. Are considering a biomedical research career at a PhD or MD/ PhD. Level

BIOMEDICAL SUMMER UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

University of Maryland Baltimore County supported by the NIDDK short term education program for minority students.

 

Eligibility:

  1. Be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions

  2. Have completed the freshman year (30 credits) in the student’s declared major prior to participation in the program.

  3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.

  4. Have a declared major in science, engineering, or mathematics appropriate to biomedical research

  5. Demonstrate an interest in science, research and related careers that is not exclusively focused on medical school

  6. Demonstrate an interest in the advancement of underrepresented groups in the biomedical sciences and mathematics.

All BSURE Trainees will present their research at a minimum of two conferences: The second annual NIDDK Undergraduate Research Conference in Hawaii on August 3 and 4, 2005, and at the Eighth Annual UMBC Summer Undergraduate Research Fest in August 2005.

Summer Student Program- The Jackson Laboratory Bar Harbor, Maine

Eligibility:

At the time of participation in the program, a high school student must:

  1. Have completed Grade 11 and Grade 12

  2. Be at least 16 years old, and

At the time of participation in the program, a college student must:

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student

University of Rochester

A 10 week summer research experience at the University of Rochester for undergraduates interested in a career in biomedical or biological research and who may be considering applying to graduate school

TOXICOLOGY RESEARCH TRAINING FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN, HISPANIC AND NATIVE AMERICAN UNDERGRADUATES-THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN MADISON

Research areas available to students each summer include Biochemical and Genetic Toxicology, Immunotoxicology, and Neurotoxicology, depending on which of 20 trainers the student and director choose.

The Program covers most expenses and offers a competitive stipend of more than $3,500. Students also have access to all campus libraries and recreational facilities. These are no fess or tuition costs for the student. 

Eligibility: Applicants must be African American, Hispanic, or Native American, and US citizens or permanent residents. Juniors with GPA of at least 3.0 are preferred. Sophomores may apply.

Applications are reviewed in the order they are received beginning each Jan 31. The application will be online in December. Application deadline is March 1st. Students submit applications online. They must choose toxicology among the five options for biology-based summer research programs at UW-Madison and write a brief personal statement of interest in toxicology research.

 

CORNELL LEADERSHIP ALLIANCE SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM

The program:

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be in good academic standing with a grade point average of about 3.0 or better, have completed at least two but no more than seven semesters, and demonstrate an interest in pursuing graduate study.

Students in this program receive a stipend of $2,500 and $1,000 to cover living expenses while on campus.

Research Opportunities:

Students in the program conduct research with faculty in a variety of areas, including life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences, humanities and engineering.
