History of the Nursing Program

Prince George's Community College's (PGCC) Nursing Program began in 1967 with the first class graduating 13 students in 1969. The program was approved by the State Board of Nursing in 1969 and accredited by the National League of Nursing in 1976. The LPN to RN Transition Program began the summer of 1995 with the PN program starting in 1996. PGCC has graduated over 4,500 students during these years.

At the outset, the program used three outside agencies and two full-time faculty. Today, the program uses over 35 outside agencies with 17 full-time faculty, one visiting professor, approximately 25 adjunct faculty, and three health technology computer technicians.
