Continuing Education ESL

Prince George’s Community College’s Adult Education Program offers classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL), at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. These classes are for adults from other countries who need instruction in speaking, understanding, reading and writing English. Classes focus on the language and cultural skills needed to be successful in the workplace and in the community, particularly speaking and listening skills. A literacy level is available at some sites for students who are not literate in their own language.

Classes are held at sites throughout Prince George's County.  Most classes meet in the evenings; there is one morning center and one Saturday center.  Students must be at least 16 years of age, and not enrolled in a regular high school program.  Regular attendance is expected.

Registration for classes is held several times a year, at class sites.  Many centers fill quickly; registration is first come, first served.  In-person registration is required.  Learners take a placement test at registration and are placed in the appropriate class level.

Classes generally meet for a total of 64-66 hours.  There is no class fee for the beginning and intermediate levels; there is a $75 tuition and book fee for Advanced ESL.  Students must buy their books if they wish to write in and keep them; the book fee is $40.

For more information on class schedules or registration dates, please call (301) 322-0891, or email AdultEducation@pgcc.edu.
