The folder and portfolio go through the following stages of review:  from the Division Promotion Committee to the dean, from the dean to the appropriate vice president, then to the Collegewide Promotion Committee, and finally to the president, who may recommend individuals to the Board of Trustees for promotion.   The portfolio follows this route to the president regardless of whether each successive reviewing party recommends or does not recommend promotion.    At any stage of the process, however, an applicant’s portfolio and folder can be remanded to the previous stage for further justification of judgments rendered and recommendations made.   Throughout this process the judgments and recommendations of each reviewing party are recorded on Form R and are themselves subject to review at successive stages. 

At all points in this process the applicant must be informed in writing of all adverse judgments and has the right to rebut all findings and recommendations within five workdays of receipt.   Such rebuttals, together with supporting documentation, become a part of the record.
