II.  PROMOTION 

A.     Eligibility for Promotion 

1.                  A faculty member may not be promoted more than one rank at any one time. 

2.                  A faculty member must complete all educational and pertinent professional experience requirements before submitting an application for promotion, but the faculty experience and time-in-rank requirements may be completed during the academic year in which the application is submitted. 

3.                  The minimum requirements in terms of education and professional/faculty experience are listed for each academic rank in Table A, which follows this section. 

4.                  The following are the minimum requirements for promotion: 

To assistant professor:

Two years as an instructor.

Application for promotion may be made during the second year as an instructor.

Education and experience requirement:  See Table A.

To associate professor:

Three years as assistant professor.

Application for promotion may be made during the third year as assistant professor.

Education and experience requirement:  See Table A.  

To professor:

Five years as an associate professor.

Application for promotion may be made during the fifth year as associate professor.  

Exception: Faculty members who at the time of hiring had the required academic preparation and experience to qualify for the rank of "professor" but were initially placed in the "associate" level rank, can apply for promotion to the rank of "professor" in their second year at the college.
