Prince George’s Community College has as its primary goal for the Title III project the improvement of its capability to educate students for the 21st Century by updating and strengthening its total curriculum.  We plan to achieve this goal through the infusion of technological applications into a wide variety of courses, while at the same time facilitating the use of collaborative active learning strategies in the classroom.  As a major institutional systematic reform effort, the project requires the active participation of faculty from all programs, departments, and divisions.  This level of participation is being achieved through the recruitment of faculty curriculum development teams having broad representation across the organization. This effort continues to provide for the faculty participants useful hands-on experience in curriculum reform

and instructional development.  To date, a total of 16 full-time faculty have participated in the project.  By the completion of the project, at least 48 full- and part-time faculty, or roughly one-fifth of the total institutional faculty will have participated. Faculty participants are receiving training in appropriate technologies and in pedagogical strategies to promote active student learning. Faculty are encouraged to share their observations and findings through regular campus presentations  and discussions, as well as disseminating their findings through presentations at professional meetings. 

The ultimate success of the project is defined by the extent of our achievement of the overall project goals listed as follows:

  1. The strengthening and updating of at least 20% of all PGCC courses by the end of the project to include information technology applications and/or active learning experiences;
  2. An overall improvement in the retention rate of students in updated courses of at least 20%, leading by the end of the project to significantly higher rates of graduation and transfer;
  3. An improved educational experience for at least 2,500 students per semester by the completion of the project;
  4. An improvement in average graduate employability based on a 25% improvement in technological skills proficiency by the completion of the project.
