Use as low an RF power level (AP) as possible (100mw, 10mw, 1 mw)
Place each AP in a central location (to correctly define cell area)
Use specialized antennas to beam the microwave RF energy in the
direction desired- not into your neighbor’s home! The AP antennas that
come standard are “omni-directional” and send energy out equally in all
three dimensions. This may be problematic.
If possible, unplug power to the AP when network use is completed each
day. This shuts down the wireless and prevents intrusion 100%.
Supplemental ADVANCED measures-- Security is like an ONION (layered).
Configure a unique SSID (service set identifier) on each AP and turn off
AP “beaconing” (AP SSID advertisement).
Configure MAC “filters” on the APs-- to block unauthorized access.
Install data encryption on all APs and wireless devices (WEP, WPA).
