The Education Department prepares individuals to teach from Birth to 12th Grade. Department A.A.T. programs are the first two years of teacher preparation and provide seamless transfer to four-year institutions to complete the Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood, Elementary, and many Secondary content areas. Certificates, career pathways, and A.A.S. degrees are available for Early Childhood professionals. For individuals with Bachelor's degrees and beyond, the department offers two ways to obtain teacher certification. All the courses needed for initial certification are offered in the evenings and weekends for the convenience of working people. Coupled with passing the Praxis exam and one year of teaching with a conditional certificate, this route is called the "Credit Count Pathway". The Department also offers the Resident Teachers program in partnership with the Prince George's County School System. Further information on all programs can be accessed by clicking on the links to the left. Department Office is located in Chesapeake Hall 310E. Dr. Patricia A. Basili, Chair, 301-322-0780
