*****SKB 340 -Advanced College Reading and Study Skills- offered to students that score a 70-78 on the Accuplacer test.
The Developmental English and Reading Department exists to help students develop academic skills for succeeding in college level courses. The program focuses on basic skills in English, reading, and writing. The program also emphasizes study and test- taking strategies- all important elements for success in college. Students can work with mentors, counselors, faculty and peer tutors to address special needs and concerns. The program offers day and evening courses at the main campus in Largo. In addition, some developmental studies courses are offered at off-campus extension centers.
Most developmental study courses are equivalent to four semester hours for academic load and tuition purposes and for financial aid eligibility. They award Continuing Education credits (CEU's) to students for successful completion rather than credits. They do NOT carry academic credit toward a certificate or an associate's degree and are NOT transferable to another college.
In cases where a student's basic academic skills as measured by the placement test (Accuplacer) do not meet the minimum standards as established by the instructional departments, successful completion of prescribed developmental courses will be MANDATORY before enrollment in related courses can be accomplished.
