Honors Academy

     The Honors Academy is designed for academically outstanding Honors students who are interested in a rigorous program of academic excellence, intellectual development, and leadership and community service.  The benefits include: (1) dual admission at Prince George’s Community College and a partnering four-year institution; (2) financial support from Prince George’s Community College and the partnering four-year institution; (3) membership in the Honors Program and Honors Society; (4) study with outstanding faculty; (5) Honors Academy advisor; (6) opportunities to participate in research and internships; (7) work with fellow academy scholars; and (8) possible induction into Phi Theta Kappa (international Honors Society for two-year colleges).
Currently enrolled PGCC students are eligible if they:  (1) have a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average or higher, based upon at least 12 college credits; (2) have at least 6 of the 12 credits in General Education courses; (3) have as one of the General Education courses English (EGL) 101 with a minimum grade of B; and (4) are enrolled in the Honors Program at the time the application is submitted.
Incoming students to PGCC are eligible if they:  (1) have applied for admission to PGCC; (2) are eligible to enroll in the Honors Program; and (3) have a 3.5 minimum high school GPA and a minimum 1050 SAT score--or have a 3.0 minimum high school GPA and a minimum 1150 SAT score--or have a 3.5 GPA and a minimum 23 ACT score.

Honors Program

     This program promotes the intellectual growth and enrichment of academically outstanding students with Honors courses taught by Honors faculty.  The benefits include:  (1) designation of Honors courses on transcript; (2) faculty mentors; (3) scholarship opportunities; (4) Honors Society activities; (5) academic advisement; and (6) awards to outstanding students.
Currently enrolled PGCC students are eligible if they:  (1) have a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or higher; (2) have a grade of “A” in English (EGL) 101--or an Accuplacer Reading score of 95 or higher; and (3) are at the level of DVM 007 or higher.
Incoming students to PGCC are eligible if they:  (1) have an Accuplacer reading score of 95 or higher; (2) have an Accuplacer Writing score of 108 or higher—or an approved writing sample; and (3) have a math placement of DVM 007 or higher.

     This program located within the Administration of Justice (Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Legal Studies--Paralegal/Pre-Law) instructional department provides more personalized assistance for students in their disciplines.  By offering a unique environment conducive to intellectual, academic, and scholarly pursuits, the Collegian Center fosters cohesiveness and discipline identity among its student members.  The benefits include:  (1) mentoring/advising to students;
(2) internships/research/field experience opportunities;
(3) scholarly lectures/seminars/workshops; (4) information concerning transfer opportunities and requirements as well as career fields and required degrees; and (5) an Honors component. You are eligible to join the Collegian Center if you:  (1) have been admitted to Prince George’s Community College; (2) have declared your program option as Criminal Justice AA or AAS degree, Forensic Science AS or AAS degree, Paralegal Studies AAS degree, or Pre-Law AA degree; and (3) have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.8 or higher, based upon at least 12 and no more than 30 college credits.
You maintain your membership by participating in at least three activities per fall/spring semester.
