Coach Jimmy Williams
Growing up in Northeast
Washington DC, Jimmy Williams’ goal was to be a professional baseball
player. After graduating from Eastern Senior High School, Jimmy was offered
a contract by the Baltimore Orioles. Coach Williams has sixteen years of
professional baseball experience while playing in Baltimore Orioles, LA
Dodgers and San Francisco Giants Organizations. His position was outfield.
He has captured Most Valuable Player, Most Popular, Topps Player of the
Month, and Batting Champion Awards while playing Pro baseball. The Giants
placed him on their Major League Roster.
Jimmy's playing days, has also taken his talents abroad to The Dominican
Republic, Mexico, Panama , Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the Chunichi Dragons
in Japan where he played in the Japan World Series. Coach Williams
participated in the Major League Baseball Envoy Program where he provided
detail baseball instructions to coaches and players in China, June of 2004.
During the summer of 2003, he also participated in the Major League Baseball
Envoy Program and provided detail baseball instruction to coaches and
players in Germany. He supported selected baseball programs over a seven
week time period.
Jimmy successfully
completed the Scout Development Program presented by the Major League
Baseball Scouting Bureau, which was held in the Dominican Republic, November
2004. He is a highly skilled coaching professional who believes that
baseball is more than a game. It prepares the young person for life by
affording life skills, teamwork, decision making, self esteem, moral growth
and development. He teaches students athletes the fundamentals of baseball,
develop their skills, provide academic advice, and recruits athletes to
enroll in the baseball program, evaluate performance potential, and prepare
the team to win on and off the field.
He is also very responsive to his community. He volunteers his time to young
players to inspire and expand their skill level to achieve a broader
understanding of the game in base- ball for the Kettering, Largo,
Mitchellville Boys and Girls Club.
From 1999 to 2002, he was Division one Head Coach at Howard University in
Washington, DC where he coordinated the Baseball program. This included
leading assistant coaches, preparing budgets, planning, scheduling games,
and recruitment. Jimmy also coached at the University of the District of
Columbia and volunteered at various high schools. Jimmy still had time for a
family. He has two daughters and a lovely grand-daughter.
