About the Program
The Medical Coder/Billing Specialist certificate was started in 1992 and graduated its first class in December 1993.

There are two full-time faculty and more than 20 outside agencies used for directed clinical practice.
Admission occurs each fall semester after meeting all entrance requirements, including prerequisite courses. Students may enroll in general education courses in any semester. See Admissions Information.
A partial evening/weekend program assists students who work while completing their education.

The laboratory is equipped with computers, laser printers and application software. Software includes Internet Explorer, Microsoft Office, 3M ICD-9 CM/HCPCS encoder/DRG grouper/APCFINDER/References, SoftMED physician/record tracking reporting systems, MEDISOFT physician office accounting systems, and IMPAC.

The Health Information Technology program has been designated by the Maryland Higher Education Commission as a statewide program. Students who reside outside of Prince George's County, but within the state of Maryland, may be eligible for tuition adjustment to the in-county fee. See catalog for details.
