Psychology.
University-parallel introduction to psychology. Study of behavior, cognitive processes;
concepts of memory, perception, consciousness, personality, and social behavior. PSY 101H. Honors General Psychology.
Intensive and more advanced version of PSY 101 encompassing memory, perception and
cognition, sensation, the processes of personality development, psychological disorders,
and psychotherapy.
PSY 115. Death and Dying.
Historical and current concepts of death and dying, including implications of
euthanasia and suicide.
PSY 201. Personality and Adjustment.
Topics of personality information and development, theories of personality, personal
adjustment, and mental health.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 203. Child Psychology.
Physical, intellectual, and psychological development of the child from birth to
preadolescence.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 204. Adolescent Psychology.
Psychological, cognitive, and social-emotional changes that occur during the period of
adolescence. Emphasis is placed on the phases of adolescence.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 206. Educational Psychology.
Learning processes and theories, individual differences, measurement, motivation,
emotions, intelligence, problem-solving, thinking, and communication in educational
settings.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 207. Human Growth and Development.
Physical, social, cognitive, emotional, and moral development throughout the entire
life span.
PSY 208. Abnormal Psychology.
Study of human behaviors and mental experience that are unusual, unreasonable, and
distinct from cultural norms. Changing views of mental disorders are discussed.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 209. The Psychology of Aging.
The biological, psychological, historical and cultural aspects of aging are presented
in a multidisciplinary approach. Diversities in the aging experience are discussed.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 210. The Psychology of Women.
A survey of women's life-span development, socialization and personality attributes,
mental and physical health factors, and the ways gender influences social phenomena.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 211. Psychology and African Americans.
Examines the psychology and African Americans from an Afrocentric, historical
behavioral, developmental, and humanistic perspective.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 212. Drugs and Behavior.
Overview of psychotropic drugs, including drugs to abuse and drugs to treat
mental disorders. Topics include pharmacology, the historical context, legal and
psychosocial issues. Treatment, law enforcement and educational perspectives are
considered.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 213. Forensic Psychology.
Introduces concepts which unite psychology and the law, reviews statutes
governing competency, insanity, and involuntary commitment; and acquaint students with
forensic assessment techniques, including the interview process, specialized testing and
collecting collateral information. Considers assessing competency to stand trial,
criminal responsibility, pre-sentencing evaluations, assessment of dangerousness,
and child custody evaluations.
PSY 219. Social Psychology.
Psychology of human interactions. Social influence, interpersonal relations, and group
dynamics.
Prerequisite: PSY 101.
PSY 220. Introduction to Sport Psychology.
Introduction to Sport and Exercise Psychology introduces the
student to principles of psychology as they apply to sport and exercise. Topics will
include ethics and problems in research methodology, motivation, learning, social
behavior, performance enhancement, youth sports, gender issues, leadership and exercise
issues. The course includes multicultural and international views of the field.
