POS  courses meet for 3 class hours per week, or equivalent.

POS 100. Fundamentals of Political Science.
Introduction to terms, concepts, and theories of political science, and their application to law, politics, and government.

POS 101. American National Government.
A study of the Constitution and the American political system, including how power and authority are acquired and applied.  Emphasis will be placed on the Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court, as well as on voting dynamics, political parties, interest groups, public opinion and the media.

POS 102. State and Local Government.
Function, role, and responsibilities of state and local governments with emphasis on Maryland and Prince George's County.

POS 201. Comparative Political Ideologies.
Survey of prominent political ideologies influencing 20th century history and politics: nationalism, socialism, communism, fascism, and democracy.

POS 207. Introduction to International Politics.
Analysis of major factors influencing world politics and the conduct of foreign policy.

POS 210. Model United Nations
Provides an orientation to the activities of the United Nations, as well as providing an understanding of the tactics and strategies used in the formal arena of international diplomacy. Students will be taught the techniques of negotiation, debate and consensus building. Rules and procedures of the United Nations, country background and information, writing position papers, verbal resolution support are taught for preparation to participate in a model conference competing against other college groups from across the country.
